‘Celebrating Life’s Stories’ Selected as 2018 Theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the American Health Care Association (AHCA) announced “Celebrating Life’s Stories” as the 2018 theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), formerly known as National Nursing Home Week.

The theme, “Celebrating Life’s Stories” pays homage to the diverse set of perspectives that residents, families, and staff bring to everyday interactions. From May 13-19, 2018, centers will be encouraged to collect narratives on each individual’s most significant life events, relationships and experiences to cultivate a shared sense of purpose at the center and in the surrounding community.

“We are proud to honor the unique stories of those in the long term and post-acute care communities,” said Mark Parkinson, AHCA President, and CEO. “This National Skilled Nursing Care Week, we hope centers and community members alike take the opportunity to join us in this celebration of life.”

Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, NSNCW recognizes the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Skilled nursing care centers and members of the public can download promotional materials for the new theme from www.ahcancal.org/NSNCW and are encouraged to share their activity ideas for the observance on social media with the hashtag, #NSNCW.

AHCA has issued a planning guide and product catalog focused on “Celebrating Life’s Stories”. For more information on National Skilled Nursing Care Week, please visit www.ahcancal.org/NSNCW .

The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) represents more than 13,500 non-profit and proprietary skilled nursing centers, assisted living communities, sub-acute centers, and homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. By delivering solutions for quality care, AHCA/NCAL aims to improve the lives of the millions of frail, elderly and individuals with disabilities who receive long-term or post-acute care in our member facilities each day.
