Meet Marlys

Meet Marlys –

Marlys grew up on a farm in Menomonie, Wisconsin with one brother and one sister. She helped with the crops, driving horses and with housework…really, a little bit of everything. She attended a one room school house up to the 8th grade. She then went to Menomonie High School. While in school she worked at the bakery and took care of the mailman’s two sons in exchange for room and board. After high school, she went to vocational school in Eau Claire for bookkeeping.

Marlys met her husband when she was living in Menomonie. He attended University of Wisconsin – Stout. They got married in 1940. They moved several times throughout their married life and they had five children, three boys and two girls. Eventually they settled in Minnesota.

Marlys has lived at Shepherd of Grace for four years now. She really likes the people. Marlys has had a lot of back trouble and has had four back surgeries. She unfortunately continues to have a lot of pain. After a couple falls, she received Good Shepherd Home Health Care services and said, “they were very good, they got me moving again!” Theresa was her RN and managed her care and physical therapy helped her with walking and strengthening. She highly recommends their services to others.

We are proud to have Marlys call Shepherd of Grace home.
