COVID-19 Update

We know it has been a long wait, but we are pleased to share that we will be starting outdoor visits on Wednesday, June 24.

Visitors will be screened by staff, perform hand hygiene, and must wear a mask throughout the entire visit. Residents and tenants must also wear a mask and maintain social distancing of at least six feet. There will be a maximum of three visitors per resident or tenant visit.  All visits will be supervised and must be scheduled. Further instructions will be given once a visit is scheduled.

We greatly appreciate the sacrifices families have made during this pandemic to ensure their loved one’s safety and well-being. We are all very excited for the residents and tenants to be able to see their families and reconnect in person.

Since Good Shepherd is a senior living campus with a variety of housing and healthcare settings, we are operating under different guidelines per setting provided by the CDC, MDH, and CMS. Throughout this process, we have operated with a spirit of transparency and within governing reporting requirements, privacy, and confidentiality rules.

CMS has released a three-phase plan to reopen facilities. Currently, we are still in Phase I where all current restrictions remain in place. This includes no indoor visitation (except compassionate end of life visits), no communal dining, and no group activities. Moving into Phase II requires meeting several criteria including no new COVID cases (criteria for both our larger community and our facility), adequate staffing, adequate supplies of personal protective equipment and essential cleaning and disinfecting supplies, adequate access to testing for COVID, and area referral hospitals having enough bed capacity in COVID wards and ICU. We know for certain it will be a cautious journey into reopening our nursing home. As previously stated, the reopening plan may vary in our senior apartments and assisted living/memory care settings. We will provide more information as our situation changes and further guidance become available for our settings.

We mourn the loss of two beloved residents to this coronavirus and respectfully celebrate the recovery of two others. While many other facilities across the nation, and in Minnesota, have been devastated, we have been very fortunate to have kept the cases low in our settings. This has been accomplished through constant vigilance, heightened infection control and sanitization processes, and our tireless staff dedication.

Thank you for your amazing support through donations, funds, supplies, thoughts, and prayers. Together, we will get through this and will remain Good Shepherd Strong.

“The people are nice, and everything is neat
and clean and so convenient. I really enjoy painting;
I find it very relaxing. I also enjoy going to Church
and all the activities on campus,
I’m even singing in the choir.
It keeps me busy and out of trouble.”
