COVID-19 Update

Good Shepherd remains committed to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of all people entrusted to our care and our dedicated staff. We continue to receive guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

As an organization, we are doing everything we can to decrease anxiety during these uncertain times. Our efforts continue to make life as normal as possible while managing the changes to routine required by the COVID pandemic. We know how difficult the separation has been on everyone – residents, tenants, families, and our staff. We are facilitating communication with families in a variety of ways including video chats, telephone calls, mail, and emails. Staff continues to find creative ways to engage and entertain while caring for all with love and compassion.

We continue to follow our COVID emergency response plan including:

  • Heightened infection control protocols
  • Following recommended preventive actions and quarantine protocols
  • Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Prohibiting visitors except for essential healthcare services and extreme end of life compassionate situations
  • Canceling communal dining in all buildings on both campuses and all activities outside of resident rooms in the nursing home
  • Restricting tenant movements on both campuses and encouraging tenants to social distance by staying within their apartments/apartment buildings
  • Monitoring and screening residents and tenants for signs of illness
  • Continuing to screen everyone entering our buildings with recording temperatures and screening questions (no one is allowed in our buildings if they are ill)

Governor Walz has amplified the statewide testing strategy with a focus on nursing homes and assisted living. Testing is not mandatory at this time but is encouraged. Good Shepherd is awaiting availability and instructions from the Minnesota Department of Health regarding widespread testing.

We will be reporting weekly updates to the CDC and MDH as required. We will also be reporting weekly updates to residents, tenants, and resident representatives via VoiceFriend. Please do not be alarmed if you receive an automated call. The primary contact for families of affected residents or tenants are notified in person if their loved one becomes ill, or their condition changes. In order to effectively manage inquiries, we have set up an email for COVID questions from tenants and families at (that is an underscore between the d and Q). Please direct any questions to this email which will be answered during business hours Monday through Friday. Otherwise, please call your case manager, program director, or housing manager if your call or question is urgent.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement through prayer and donations during this pandemic. Please know our focus is clear and remains on providing the best care and exceptional services to our tenants, residents, and staff. Your loved ones are in good hands and together we remain Good Shepherd strong.

“The people are nice, and everything is neat
and clean and so convenient. I really enjoy painting;
I find it very relaxing. I also enjoy going to Church
and all the activities on campus,
I’m even singing in the choir.
It keeps me busy and out of trouble.”
– Gaylen
